Marley
Let's introduce our first save and his name is Marley. We saw Marley in a kill pen in Oklahoma, days after our beloved Stanley left us. He reminded me so much of him that we had to help him land softly and come to Skydog Sanctuary and retire in the comfort and warmth of our Malibu ranch. Marley was used as a work horse and is horribly thin and by his BLM brand is 28 years old. He looked so worn out and defeated in the photos we saw, but something about the glint of his eye told me he still had a whole life to live. Not a hard life where anything will be asked of him, but a quiet, peaceful life full of kindness where he will never go to sleep with an empty stomach, be alone or afraid.
Marley was rounded up from the Owyhee HMA in Nevada and lived wild and free for two years until he was rounded up and captured. That day he lost his family and his freedom. He was adopted out and we know nothing about his life until he was dumped in a kill pen, probably because he couldn't work hard any longer and is no longer useful. So today he gets to start a brand new life. With all your donations matched today your funds will go so much further and help us save more lives than just this one. #skydogmarley
Mustangs and Burros Need Your Help
In addition to supporting our work by donating, becoming a patron on Patreon, or sponsoring a Skydog, there are several important pieces of legislation to protect American equines currently moving through Congress. It only takes a few minutes to contact your Rep and Senators and urge them to support these bills:
Save America’s Forgotten Equines (SAFE) Act of 2023 (H.R. 3475 in the House / S.2307 in the Senate). This bill will shut down the slaughter pipeline that sends some 20,000 American horses and donkeys to savagely monstrous deaths in foreign slaughterhouses every year.
The Wild Horse & Burro Protection Act of 2023 (H. R. 3656) This bill will prohibit the use of helicopters or fixed-wing aircraft in the management of wild mustangs and burros on public lands, and require a report on humane alternatives to current management practices.
Ejiao Act of 2023 (H.R. 6021). To ban the sale or transportation of ejiao, a gelatin made from boiling donkey skins, or products containing ejiao in interstate or foreign commerce, which brutally kills millions of donkeys primarily for beauty products and Chinese medicine.
